Resources
"Caring Together" by Rev Chris Morley

Sarah Middleton, South-East District Training Officer writes: 'I would like to bring to your attention a new resource for groups and individuals on the subject of caring. It has been written by retired Methodist minister, Rev Chris Morley, who has put together a well-researched book (published by Kevin Mayhew, £9.99) and supporting website, very much earthed in his own experience as a carer. Chris himself writes: "According to the National Audit Office, there are more than six million unpaid carers in the UK. In every 50 worshippers, there are therefore likely to be five of them. They need many different types of support but what churches can particularly provide are opportunities to meet with other carers to share, listen and reflect. My book, Caring Together, and the accompanying website, http://www.caring-together.com , offer a wealth of resources to facilitate such mutual support. There are ten sessions on topics such as Looking after yourself, Listening, Getting Support, Anger, using as discussion prompts what carers have written about the experience, reflections on some things Jesus said and did, and the ideas of thinkers and writers from different epochs. Alternatively individuals or groups may just want to dip into its wide range of stimulating and encouraging material. Anyone involved in caring, not just carers, will find much in the book to help them in their caring."

It's well worth taking a moment to look at Chris' weblink. I hope you will promote as you feel appropriate.'

Church Stewards' Training Material

District staff are sometimes asked if training for church stewards is available. The District takes responsibility for training circuit stewards but would look to circuits to deliver training for church stewards. It may be of help to anyone planning such training to see the attached Powerpoint presentation. You could use one session each time in your regular church stewards' meeting. This is a copy of material originally produced as OHP slides in the connexional training pack, ‘Don’t Panic!’. The pack itself is now out of print but permission has kindly been given for this reproduction.
